Memorial Services for Ruel Elmor Pitcher, 87, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 2:00 PM Monday, March 28, 2011 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Chaplain Tom Baker officiating.
Ruel died Monday, March 21, 2011 at Care Manor Nursing Center. He was born August 23, 1923 in Chicago, IL, the son of Ruel and Chrystal Moss Pitcher, Sr. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 16, 1943 in Peoria, IL and departed to Scotland in June 1944. During his service, Ruel was a truck driver and achieved the rank of Technician Grade 5. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 14, 1945 with excellent ratings.
He met his bride overseas in France and married Mireille Marie Celina on July 27, 1946 at Reims, France. She became a naturalized citizen of the U.S. on March 22nd, 1954. They were members of the Catholic Church. He worked as a truck driver for the Teamsters Union most of his life and friends called him "Smoky". He and his wife, Marielle, moved to the area in 1998. Ruel was an avid fisherman and loved to fly fish.
Ruel is survived by his friends, Phil Thompson and Joe Berfanger both of Mountain Home, AR.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother and cousin.
Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Ozarks.
