Russell Shriver

Funeral Services for Russell Clark Shriver, Sr. of Gassville, Arkansas, will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Grace Baptist Church, with Reverend Harvey Seehusen officiating.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Monday, April 5, 2010 at Kirby and Family Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle, Iowa.

He died Friday, April 2, 2010 in Mountain Home, AR, at the age of 94. Russell was born September 22, 1915 in Mt. Sterling, IA, the son of George and Leah Clark Shriver. He married Laura Musselman on August 3, 1946; and she preceded him in death on September 10, 1981. He married Elnora Musselman Shriver on July 20, 1985 at Altoona, Iowa. Russ was a retired Chief Petty Officer of the US Navy, a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He worked for the US Postal Service for 20-plus years, and then owned and operated Granny's Auto and Pawn in Gassville from 1979 until 1990.

Russ lived in Gassville, Arkansas for 31 years moving from Carlisle, Iowa. He was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church; having served as a Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, a Deacon, and an Honorary Deacon. He was a fine example of a Christian man, a family man who loved his Lord and Savior. He was an honest and dependable man - his word was iron-clad. Russ loved to fish on the lakes and rivers, and was active in the church and community as long as his health allowed it.

Russ is survived by his wife Elnora Shriver of Gassville; daughters & sons-in-law- Phyllis (Keith Brown, Sr.) Brown of Des Moines, IA, Catherine (Gary) Bauer of Clear Lake, IA, Rebecca (Craig) Chandler of Springfield, MO; daughter - Leah Shriver of Gassville, AR; sons - Russell Shriver Jr. of Tonapah, NV, and Cecil Stanley of Ankeny, IA; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

Burial will be in the Carlisle Cemetrey, Carlisle, Iowa.

Memorials may be made to the Grace Baptist Church Dorcas Fund.
