Memorial services for Ruth Mae Steffan of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Nancy Taylor officiating.
Ruth died Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House, at the age of 89. She was born June 2, 1921 in Elgin, Illinois, the daughter of Louis and Ella Dettman Althen. She married Gordon Frederick Steffan on April 21, 1942 at Elgin, Illinois and was a homemaker. Ruth lived in Mountain Home, Arkansas since 1994 moving from Elgin, Illinois. She loved reading, making crafts, writing poems and short stories. She very much loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and she volunteered to work with blind children.
Ruth is survived by 2 daughters, Marcia Wechselberger of Mountain Home, AR and Linda Dicken of Mountain Home, AR; 1 son, Roger Steffan of Sugar Grove, IL; 2 brothers, David Althen of Santa Maria, CA and William Althen of Burlington, IL; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 sisters and 4 brothers.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Ozarks or the First Presbyterian Church.
