A Gathering of Friends for Sarah D. Dowd of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be Saturday, April, 7, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel. Sarah passed away April 3, 2012, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 73. She was born April 27, 1938, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the daughter of Alfred and Evelyn Lines Dodge. Sarah was married twice and had two children, Elizabeth and Monte. She first graduated with an English degree from the University of North Carolina, however, after her divorce, Sarah went back to school. She was in the first graduating class of occupational therapy at East Carolina University in 1972. She had a long career as an occupational therapist with a specialty in hand rehabilitation. She retired from Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach, Florida in 2004. Sarah lived in Mountain Home, Arkansas since 2005, moving from Miami, Florida. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Sarah was an accomplished pianist and her children grew up listening to her playing classical music as well as Broadway show tunes and even Disney classics. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards with her friends. Sarah was a devoted grandmother and was always behind the camera lens as she recorded her grandchildren?s activities. She loved attending her grandchildren?s activities whenever possible. Sarah is survived by her son, Robert "Monte" Burroughs (Angie) of Mountain Home, AR; daughter, Elizabeth Santos (Mauro) of Miami, FL; brother, Alfred W. Dodge Jr.(Mary) of Myrtle Beach, SC; 2 sisters, Evelyn Barringer (Bill) of Pearl River, NY, and Eileen Clark of Lenoir, NC; 4 grandchildren, Jessica and Thomas Santos, Zeb and Nora Burroughs. Memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
