Shirley Mae McNutt of Mountain Home was lovingly embraced by our Great Creator, Saturday, November 6, 2010 while in the comfort of her home, in the care of her family. Shirley was born January 9, 1929 in Palco, Kansas to western Kansas pioneer farmers Henry and Bertha (Wolverton) Turner. She was raised and received her primary education in Kansas. She met Robert Edward McNutt and they married August 4, 1950 in Wichita Kansas. Shirley worked at Boeing Aircraft as a Draftsperson and had two sons (Ray and Roger). Shirley moved to many different states and settled for a while in Berkley, Michigan where she had careers in mortgage processing and real estate. At the age of 40 she began attending Madonna College and Wayne State University to receive her Master's degree in social work. Shirley had an insatiable desire of knowledge, which made her an eclectic student. Shirley freely shared this lifelong knowledge as wisdom to council her family and many friends. She enjoyed caring for her friends at the Mountain Home Group Home also; volunteering at BRMC Hospice and leading the grief support group and many others whom she took in as family. Shirley was a very spiritual lady and held a very active position in the development of her church family at Unity, which has grown steadily. Shirley survived the Kansas dust bowl, two floods and a home fire, her strength of character and grace were always present. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 50 years, Robert McNutt and six of her seven sisters. Shirley is survived by her sister, Gladys Mauck of Tulsa, Oklahoma, sons Roger (Angie) McNutt of Gassville, Arkansas and Ray McNutt of Lake Orion, Michigan, 7 grandchildren, Amanda (James) Mattila of Virginia, Roger (Sarah) McNutt, Jr., Christina McNutt, Sara McNutt, Kacy Ather, Chance Kramer of Michigan and Myah McNutt of Gassville, Arkansas, 3 great-grandchildren, Berlin, Elijah and Isadora Mattila. This world has suffered a tremendous loss; her light warmed whomever she met. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or Breast Cancer Awareness. Arrangements are by Kirby & Family Funeral & Cremation Services.
