Funeral services for Stephen Sylvester Strauss, Jr. 90, of Mountain Home, AR, will be 2:00P.M. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Stephen Strauss, III officiating.
Visitation will be from 12:00P.M. until service time.
Stephen died Sunday, September 13, 2009 in Mountain Home. He was born September 7, 1919 in Chisolm, Maine, son of Stephen S. and Margaret Wiggins Strauss. He married Mildred Palma on April 18, 1990 at Mountain Home, Arkansas. Stephen was a U.S. Air Force veteran of 26 years and lived in Mountain Home since May of 1975 moving from San Antonio, Texas. He was the past Exhaulted Ruler of Mountain Home Elk's Lodge, life member, past President of Kiwanis Club, past Lt. Governor, member of Tablet of Honor, George F. Hixon, Founders Circle, Heritage Society, KIAR, active donor to Kiwanis International, member of the Retired Rural Mail Carriers, a retired Chief of Sheriff Department Reserves, past member of Salvation Army Board and past member of the Play House. Former Superintendent of Medical Maintenance Equipment Center at Lockland Air Force Base in Texas, a carver in New Mexico, Commercial Pilot - Land Sea in Belingham and member of AOPA in Washington.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Mildred Strauss. son, Stephen (Alice) S. Strauss, III of Port Orchard, WA, 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and sister, Terri (Robert) Hurley of Bellevue, WA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers.
Burial will be in the Forrest Lawn Cemetery, Brewmerton, Washington.
