Thomas Hancock

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Thomas P. Hancock of Cotter, Arkansas, will be 10:00 AM Friday, March 5, 2010 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, with Reverend James Fanrak officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Kirby and Family Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass will be said later at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Thomas died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Gassville Nursing Center, at the age of 80. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Thomas and Helen O'Brien Hancock. He graduated from St. Mel's High School and studied art and architecture at the Art Institute of Chicago. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 -1953. He married Colleen Meyer on October 16, 1954 at Somonauk, Illinois. He worked as a Cost Estimator and retired from Sargent & Lundy in 1995. In 1999 he and his wife moved to Cotter, Arkansas. He enjoyed painting, gardening and cooking. He will be missed by family and friends. At 5'2" he was a giant of a man.

Thomas Hancock is survived by his wife, Colleen Hancock sons, Tom of Sheridan, IL, Michael (Cheryl) of Seguin, TX, Phillip (Kate), Edward (Zsuzsa) both of Crystal Lake, IL, David (Lynn) of Bergman, AR and Dennis (Debra) of Algonquin, IL; daughters, Lynn (Ralph) Goins of Bristol, IL, Laura (Gary) Donnelly of Clarks Mills, PA and Theresa (Elwood) Mosley of Cotter, AR, 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild Also surviving are his brother, Richard (Vivian) Hancock, sister, Helen (James) King, and brother-in-law, Luigi Schiassi all of Villa Park, IL and brothers-in-law Ed (Kate) Meyer of Somonauk, IL and Don (Peg) Meyer of Mountain Home, AR.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Geraldine Schiassi.

Burial will be private in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas with Thomas, Michael, Phillip, Edward, David and Dennis Hancock as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer?s or Parkinson?s Foundations or Gassville Nursing Center.
