A Funeral Service for Velane Gertrude McAllister of Oakland, Arkansas, will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Joel Holth and Brother Tony DeWeese officiating. Visitation will be Friday, March 11, 2016, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel.
Velane was a former resident of Everton, Arkansas, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, at her home at the age of 76. She was born July 6, 1939, in Longmont, Colorado, to Willard and Leona Trevarton.
She graduated from Estes Park High School in 1958, working as a telephone operator in Denver until her marriage on April 22, 1960, to Larry E. McAllister. She traveled around the country and the world as an Air Force wife for 14 years and worked later at the Estes Park Hospital (CO) in nursing. She helped in managing a 200-acre family farm in Everton (AR) while working at Levi's in Harrison. She was a member of the Everton Baptist Church for 16 years and a member of the Oakland Baptist Church since 1993 until her passing.
She was an excellent seamstress who loved sewing for friends and family, cooking large meals for family get-togethers, taking lots of family pictures and caring for her dog, Phoebe. She was an absolutely devoted wife and caring mother to her family.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 56 years; Larry E. McAllister of Oakland; two sisters: Darlene Thompson of Lyons Colorado and Donna Perreault of Genelle (BC) Canada; two sons: Gregory A. McAllister of Bruno, Arkansas and Brian D. McAllister of Logansport, Indiana; a daughter: ReNae L. Stepp of Southaven, Mississippi; seven grandchildren: Aubry Dilbeck of Whiteville, Arkansas, Alan McAllister of Bruno, Arkansas, Emily Kassales of Montrose Colorado, Katie McAllister and Abby McAllister of Logansport, Indiana, Ashtyn Lanham and Maggie Lanham of Southhaven, Mississippi; two daughter-in-laws: Leah E. McAllister of Bruno, Arkansas and Dawn McAllister of Logansport, Indiana; a son-in-law: Dave Stepp of Southaven, Mississippi; five great-grandchildren in Arkansas and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Colorado.
Burial will be in the Crawford Cemetery, Everton, Arkansas, with Doug Dilbeck, Gregory McAllister, Alan McAllister, Brian McAllister, Dave Stepp and Ricky Rea as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the Hilltop Baptist Church in Oakland, Arkansas.
