Mr. Virgil Everett Hipes

A Funeral Service for Virgil Everett Hipes of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 11:00 am, Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service at the Funeral Home.

Virgil Everett Hipes, 91, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 at his daughter, Sharon’s home in Kokomo, IN. He was born Oct. 23, 1922 in Marion, IN to Virgil Everett and Lola (Peterman) Hipes. He resided in Mountain Home for nearly 50 years, until his health declined last year and he moved to Indiana to be cared for by his daughters, Lola and Sharon.

He graduated from High School in Marion. Virgil served in the Army from 1943-1945. He had worked as a government welder for many years. He worked on the Bull Shoals Dam and many atomic plants throughout the United States. He later owned Ulcer Gulch Relics Antique Shop, where he burnished copper and brass lamps, beds, tea kettles and other antiques. He enjoyed rewiring old lamps and electrifying various treasures. He and his wife, Mary, refinished wood furniture together. He taught his son-in-law, Darrell, the burnishing trade. They traveled together delivering dealer’s treasures and were best friends. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Gainsville, MO, having received his recognition certificate in September.

Survivors include daughters, Sharon (Darrell) Stiner and Lola Hipes Bowley, both of Kokomo, step daughter-in-law, Lavena Murray of Bull Shoals and special friend, Loretta Penton of Mountain Home. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary (Murray) Hipes; sister, Cecile Deines; daughter, Sandra Allen; and step-son, Ronnie D. Murray.

Burial will be at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas.
