Virgil Thomas "Tommy" Horton of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away September 8, 2024, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 74. He was born November 23, 1949, in Dyess, Arkansas, the son of Virgil and Frances Lunsford Horton. He married Barbara Whitlow on June 7, 1968, in Etowah, Arkansas and worked as a farmer/rancher. Tommy lived in Mountain Home for most of his life. A man who truly embraced life, he found joy in both the simple and extraordinary moments. Known as the best animated storyteller of all time, Tommy had a remarkable gift for bringing stories to life, captivating everyone around him with his wit and charm.
As an avid wildlife hunter, he had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, and his skill with a duck call was legendary. But above all, his greatest passion was helping others. Whether lending a hand to a friend or offering support to a stranger, he lived a life dedicated to making the world a better place, one small act of kindness at a time.
Rarely missing a Friday night auction, he never returned home empty-handed-most often adding to his endless collection of cowboy boots and guns, his pride and joy. He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, always embracing the little things.
One of his greatest joys was dancing with his beloved wife, never missing an opportunity to twirl her around the floor. And he never passed up a chance to do the Cotton-Eyed Joe with his kids, filling their lives with laughter and cherished memories.
His warmth, generosity, and infectious spirit will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were lucky enough to know him. His legacy lives on through the love, laughter, and kindness he brought to the world.
Tommy is survived by his spouse, Barbara Horton; daughters, Alia (Jason) Hannaford, Karen (Benton) Hardin, TJ (Trace) Hannaford, Megan (Steven Ross) Horton; son, Trey Horton; grandchildren, Ashton Wehmeyer, Jager Dealejandro, Jaxon Hannaford, Ty Hannaford, Jett Hannaford, Savannah Horton, Kolby Horton; sisters, Carol Sharp, Rosetta Catt, Phyllis Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Lynlee Wehmeyer and Brooks Wehmeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents.
