Vivian Iris Wheeler of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away January 22, 2024, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 97. She was born October 19, 1926, in Winfield, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph and Nettie (Patterson) Blakey. She married Gerald Wheeler on March 21, 1948, in Arkansas City, Kansas and spent the next 50 years as a devoted Presbyterian Minister’s wife. Vivian and Gerald exemplified Christ’s love for others and taught their children the importance of benevolence. The couple did not hold onto their belongings tightly and freely gave to those in greater need.
Vivian was an avid reader and loved mystery novels. Her perspective was never a mystery; she freely expressed her unfiltered views. She was fiercely proud of her stubborn, Irish roots. As a strong woman of faith she took everything to God in prayer. Lord help the child or grandchild she prayed for who chose a path she didn’t agree with.
Vivian found joy cheering for the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team and strived never to miss a televised game. She passed her feisty spirit and spunk in concentrated portions to each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her wit and charm will be deeply missed.
Vivian is survived by her two sons, Stephen (Kathy) Wheeler and Dwight (Becky) Wheeler; daughter, Cheryl (John) Spore; grandchildren, David Wheeler, Paul (Kristen) Wheeler, Meredith (Troy) Becker, Bryan (Krystal) Wheeler, Laura (Adam) Baker, Megan (Tim) Wunderlin, Josh (Lisa) Spore, Jen (Bo) Brister, and Sara (Lee) Tolleson; and 25 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home, Mountain Home, Arkansas. Burial will be in Towanda, Kansas announced at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Samaritan’s Purse.
