Wayne Richard Vierling of Mountain Home passed away March 13, 2016, at the age of 77. Services will be private.
Wayne was born May 29, 1938, to George & Minnie Vierling in Oakville, Iowa, where he grew up and graduated high school. After high school he entered the Army Reserves where he was called to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was honorably discharged after six years of service. He began his academic career at Iowa Wesleyan College and obtained his Masters degree from the University of Northern Iowa. He married the love of his life, Kay Laraine Miller, in 1966. They had two sons and settled in Middletown, Iowa. He had a twenty-year career as a teacher and eventually as an administrator in the Burlington school system. Wayne moved his family to Mountain Home in 1983 when he purchased Fishermen's Annex, and he operated the store until 1996. He was a moral compass to those who knew him, enjoyed the outdoors, and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Wayne is survived by his wife Kay, son Matt Vierling of Mountain Home, son Mike (Karen) Vierling of Mountain Home, sister Virginia (Loren) Miller of LaPorte City, Iowa, three Grandchildren; Britt Ashcraft of Mountain Home, Bryan Ashcraft of Rogers, and Nathan Helvenston of Portland, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother William (Marilyn) Vierling of Mediapolis, Iowa.
