Wilburn Harris

Wilburn Harris died Monday, July 13, 2009 in Mountain Home at the age of 89. He was born Monday, November 17, 1919 in Winona, Mississippi, the son of Arch and Sarah Ellen Bamberg Harris. He married Sarah "Jean" Vick on November 17, 1949 at Memphis, Tennessee and worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. Wilburn Harris was a veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in England. Wilburn moved to Mountain Home in 1990 after coming to this area to camp and fish with his family since the late 1950's. Wilburn's ability to talk to everyone and his love of the Mountain Home area prompted him to become a volunteer with the Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid photographer, both professionally and in his personal life, before going to work for the United States Postal Service. He loved to tell stories and he loved baseball almost more than life and could be found at the ballpark every season during the play-offs of the American Legion ballteams. He also enjoyed playing solitare.

Survivors: Wilburn Harris is survived by his 2 daughters, Vicki Burkhart of Mountain Home, AR and Sandra (Tom) Baldwin of Logan, UT, 1 son, Arch Harris of Memphis, TN, 1 sister, LaForie (Fred) Montgomery of Munford, TN, 11 grandchildren, Stacy Wright, Nicholas Goff, Andrew Harris, Jessica (Aaron) Boman, Katie Harris, Dana Burkhart, Matthew Baldwin, Holly Harris, Sarah (Kyle) Black, Christopher Burkhart and Jason Baldwin, 2 great-grandchildren, Ivan and Ruthie Goff.

Preceded in Death by: He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M., Wednesday, July 15 at the Kirby & Family Funeral Home.

Funeral: Graveside services for Wilburn Holmes Harris of Mountain Home, AR, will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 16, 2009 at Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, with Bishop Ray Postelwait officiating.

Burial: Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to Mountain Home Little League Baseball.

Active Bearers: Arch Harris, Andrew Harris, Nicholas Goff, Christopher Burkhart, Jim Thompson and Tom Roberts as pallbearers.
