William Dyce

Funeral Services for William Walter Dyce of Mountain Home will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Larry Bailey officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday. Walter died Friday, December 29, 2006 at the Hospice House with his family surrounding him. He was 78. William Walter Dyce was born September 17, 1928 at Marvell, Phillips County, Arkansas, the third of twelve children born to William Lee and Mary Enola Smith Dice. Mr. Dyce served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific Theatre during WW II aboard the USS Antietam (CV-36) Aircraft Carrier from 1946-1948 as the ships Officers? Barber as well as Flight Deck Crewman. He was Post Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2904 in Stuttgart, Arkansas and was a member of Post 3246 in Mountain Home. He married Reatha Louise Brinker on December 12, 1948 in Clarendon, Monroe County, Arkansas and eventually settled in Stuttgart, Arkansas County, Arkansas. He attended Little Rock Barber School and was a barber by trade in the early years, but most people will remember him as a Master Cabinet Maker and Building Contractor. He built the first round house, designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in Stuttgart as well as numerous residences and commercial buildings. They made the Twin Lakes area their home in 1970 where he continued his trade as a building contractor until his retirement in 1989. He is survived by two sons; William Roger (Laura) Dyce and Walter DeWayne Dyce, both of Mountain Home, three daughters; Nancy Renee Dyce (Tom) Walker of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Sandra Nanette Dyce Stromberg of Warden, Washington and LaDonna Kay Dyce Kirkland of Mountain Home, Three sisters; Stella Ruth Dice Sharp of Jacksonville, Arkansas, Virginia Lois Dice (Ronald David ?Butch?) Kelly of Haskell, Arkansas and Gwendolyn Willine Dice (Rufus) Ray of Lexa, Arkansas, five grandsons, five granddaughters, 16 great grandsons, 8 great granddaughters and one great great granddaughter. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 7 brothers; Edgar L.E., Howard Earl, John Porter, Samuel Eugene, Bennett Keith, J.R. and Cecil Robert and one sister; Mary Catherine Dice Pyron. Walter was a loving father and family man who enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Burial will be in the Kirby?s Tucker Memorial Cemetery with Michael Dyce, Scott Dyce, Bryan Dyce, Lindal Kirkland, Rusty Willett and Charlie Willett serving as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Hospice House.
