Dr. William H. Kettlitz was born July 26, 1914, in Monticello, Iowa. He was the son of Hans and Rena Haeussler Kettlitz. He married Helen Maxine Zimmerlin, January 20, 1946 in Bloomington, Illinois. He was minister of First Presbyterian Church for over fifty years. He received his Master of Theology degree at the Theological Seminary, University of Dubuque, Dubuque, Iowa. He was awarded a Doctor of Divinity by Parsons College, Parsons, Iowa in 1959. Following his ordination into the ministry he was called to a pastorate at Minonk, Illinois where he served eighteen months until he enlisted in the United States Navy as a Lt. Jr. Grade in the Chaplain Corps. He served in the Marine Corps, 3rd Division at Guadalcanal, Guam, and Iwo Jima. He resigned after 5 1/2 years with the rank of Lt. Commander. He served churches in Minonk, Illinois; Independence, Iowa; Muscatine, Iowa; Keokuk, Iowa; and Washington, Iowa. In retirement he served the 101 Presbyterian Church in Gamaliel, Arkansas; the Yellville Church, and the Mountain Home Presbyterian Church. He is a former Rotarian in Washington, Iowa; Keokuk, Iowa; and Bull Shoals, Arkansas. Dr. Kettlitz lived in Washington, Iowa before moving to the Twin Lakes area in 1979. Dr. William H. Kettlitz passed away May 26, 2006 at Baxter Regional Medical Center at the age of 91 and 10 months.
