Mr. William H. Vigus
January 24, 1918 — July 22, 2013
William (Bill) H. Vigus, was born January 24, 1918, in Hoopeston, Illinois, to parents Robert Edd and Linda Francis Vigus. (both deceased) He had three brothers and one sister in the following order; Richard Elmo Vigus of Mountain Home, Arkansas (deceased), Marie Gladis Clippinger, of Hamond, Indiana (deceased), Wooderuff D. Vigus of Hoopeston, Illinois (deceased) and Dwight E. Vigus of Monticello, Indiana.
He and Anne Lillian Allen were married, September 25, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. They have three daughters, Kathleen Anne Kolstad, Bettijean Rangel and Nancy Lynn Gawron, the latter two were twins. He has six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He attended The Moody Memorial Church in Chicago and served in the usher band. He helped in starting The Ashburn Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois, where he was a charter member and served as Deacon for many years. He worked in the field of Street Transportation in Chicago for thirty five years, starting as a street car conductor in 1940 and the remainder of his working years in the Engineering Department as Draftsman, Designer and Construction Engineer.
During WWII, he served as a sergeant in the Army Engineers in the 530th Light Ponton Bridge Company from 1943 till the day after Christmas of 1945. Serving in the South Pacific Area, he took part in the campaign of New Guinea, and in the Philippine campaigns on both Leyte and Luzon. After the war he returned to his former job with the Chicago Service Lines, which later became the Chicago Transit Authority.
He retired from his position with the Transit Authority in August of 1975 and also retired as a Sergeant of the Illinois State Police Auxiliary. He located to Mountain Home, Arkansas in February 1976.
He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Mountain Home, the American Legion, V.F.W, The North Arkansas Wood Carvers and the Mountain Home Stamp Club, also a long time member of the NRA and believed the second amendment meant what is says as any elementary school kid could read it and understand it.
William died Monday, July 22, 2013 at Mountain Home, Arkansas, at the age of 95 years.
Memorial Services will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, September 12, 2013 at the Kirby and Family Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements by Kirby & Family Funeral and Cremation Services of Mountain Home, Arkansas.
