Winfred Church

Winfred "Win" R. Church was born March 27, 1919 in Dighton, Kansas. He was the son of Leo and Alma Durr Church. He married Hazel Filbert on May 2, 1969 in Alexandria, Virginia. Win was area director for the USDA and was an Air Force veteran of WWII. He lived in Mountain Home for 19 years, moving from Charlotte Hall, Maryland. He was a long-time Kiwanis member, past President of NARFE, member of Mountain Home Masonic Lodge #225 F & AM, and Twin Lakes Shrine Club. He was also past commander of Alley-White American Legion Post #52 and a long-time member of the Honor Guard. Mr. Church was a member of the Legion of Honor, a Hospice volunteer for 17 years, and a member of First United Methodist Church. Winfred R. Church passed away at Baxter Regional Medical Center on August 31, 2005, at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 3 days. Survivors: His wife of thirty-six years, Hazel Church of Mountain Home, Arkansas; daughter, Bette (Gary) Tranbarger of Great Bend, Kansas; son, Robert (Marla) Church of Atlanta, Georgia; step-son, Ron (Jeanne) Filbert of Denver, Colorado; step-daughter, Sheryl (Dave) Hargrave of San Andreas, California; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren Preceded in Death by: His parents, a sister, and a brother Visitation: 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, September 2,2005, Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home Funeral: 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2005, Kirby-Boaz Funeral Home Chapel, Mountain Home, Arkansas with Reverend Randy Ludwig officiating Burial: Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery with military services by North Central Arkansas Veteran's Council and Honor Guard by American Legion Alley-White Post # 52 Memorials: First United Methodist Church, 605 West 6th, Mountain Home, AR 72653 Active Bearers: Kenneth Hanna, William Miles, Jim Eickman, Maurice Sheehy, Robert Karpen, and Gene Irby
